So this very Dhamma of the Buddha, given for liberation and Unbound, carried and heritage of those heading the ancestorship of the liberated, the Buddhas bound toward freedom, the monastic disciples, are given to share it for simply this purpose and what ever receiving and forwarding, sharing of ones attainments here falls into this purpose, is not thought for unskillful undertakings, misuse, trade and livelihood, binding toward lasting dependecy, is good received, and can joyful be seen as completely given with no other strings. To mention the Juwels as it's carrier, if wishing to add this as further bound one could seek refuge in, may be of course of additional liberating effects.

Since one might be not free of doubt of what kind of use might be of most benefit and what kind may bear even heavy dangers, some points are discussed here and are open to make wise use for ones, and that of many, long lasting happiness and beyond.

Much of the content here has it's origin in the generous gift of John Bullitts accesstoinsight.org. The general philosophy on Dhamma-Dana and ati.org's policies can be found on the FAQ-page. Please see also the dedication of the previous work and the objectives in general for deeper understanding.

Scope of this Dhamma-Gift

General

The monastic Sangha of the Buddhas disciples was founded to maintain the teachings as a living tradition and to carry the path of liberation also by it's words on for future generations.

The Dhamma in words therefore would be always good and right understood as the heritage of the Sangha of disciples, good following disciples, who in ways of keeping the highest conduct are able to carry it on without becoming subject of corruption as soon as teachings are misused as means of trade.

In this manner all Dhamma-Dana here are good estimated as a matter of goodness of many generations and countless sacrifices, reaching back to the Elders and the Sublime. Buddha himselves.

Althought there might be certain personal restrictions and wishes in the scope of gifts, if derived for lay-people, they are all not given for any commercial purpose, trade or exchange of worldly dimension incl. also use for foundraising or third part benefits in gain.

Aside of this general “No-Go” the various authors have given their gifts in various scope of possible use. As for those part given by monastics, it's proper to regard it forwarded by the goodness of the Juwels. Informations about it can be often found at the end of each page and there is no restriction to simply ask for certain cases to lighten doubt and increase good joy.

Authors restrictions

A popular idea about the Dhamma of the Buddha is that everybody has a kind of inherent right and that it is not owned by anybody but something like “public domain”. Such is, how ever, a total wrong view going against right view and the principle of Kamma: “there are gift, there are sacrifices”, and that certain phenomenas have actions as their forerunners: What ever there might be goodness received, is subject of deserving gratitude and nothing such as an inherent right can be found or skillfully assumed.

Therefore it's a matter of gratitude to serve and respect the single authors possible limitations and restrictions in regard of their gift.

To maintain such proper is a matter of Virtue, and abstaining from taking of what is not given.

Sharing on various places

One may feel given to share works and parts of them according the authors or givers wishes for what ever good purpose as a way of taking part and sharing merits.

There are how ever places and circumstances generally not proper to share Dhamma which can be found under the attributes of either 1) not respected or 2) for trade.

Sharing Dhamma disrespectful

There are various places which are not proper to share Dhamma since grave wrong view and disrespect might dominate there. Some of the well known places are:

  • Wikipedia, since 1) no signs of sublimity are tolerated, 2) given also for commercial purpose, and 3) open to change content for eveyone.
  • Social-networks and content-platforms like google, facebook, reddit, exchange… since what ever content is no only transferred to certain extent to the site owning company but also primary subject of trade through traffic. In most cases shares are not only against the Dhamma but also violations of laws in regard of the authors and owners authority.

If wishing to share on places in unpleasanr environments it's good to reduce as much as possible to links.

Sharing Dhamma respectfully

What ever privat place dedicated for Dhamma-purpose, whether ones own enviroment or of somebody else is proper to share.

What ever Dhamma is consciously and personal given, whether brought into alternative format, rendered carefully, even printed out as physical book, with gratitude, a heart of goodness and joy, as a matter of obligation or compassion, given in respectful way and reminding on it's origin, is well given.

Aside of possible wishes of the certain author one is given to decide him-/herself to which extent credits toward author, contributor, or translater such is expressed.
